About me

My name is Marcin Malinowski, i’m 28, i’ve been living in Polish province called Silesia (mostly in Tychy, in the beggining of 2006 i moved to Katowice) for the most of my life. I’m a librarian, i have a master’s degree in library science. For over four years i’ve been working as a librarian in two silesian libraries.

On weekdays i work at the Youth Palace in Katowice and on weekends i work at Humanitas University in Sosnowiec. Occasionally i work as a journalist freelancer. I worked in Dziennik Internautów (Internaut’s Journal), a large polish IT portal.

I’m also a co-author of the report on mobile web called Mobile Web – how to effectively use mobile communication and a translator for the polish edition of How to use wiki in 21 days.

After work

For over three years I’ve been involved in osiolki.net. I help to make Internet a bit more friendly for people not using IE. In the beginning of 2005 i started to write book reviews (mainly science fiction and fantasy, but not only) for polish web portal called Załoga G. Finally, there’s a website, http://koncerty.net.pl. I like to say i’m one of co-creators of this site. It’s all about musical events going on all over the country. We inform what’s going on in music clubs in our region.

Writing

I like to write. I’ve written quite a lot for the past few years: over a dozen of book reviews (for Załoga G) and about ten accounts of the musical events (for koncerty.net.pl). About half a year ago i wrote a paragraph that was published in Internet Maker magazine (Half-optimistic paragraph, Internet Maker 3/2006).

In a polish magazine dedicated to teachers-librarians called Biblioteka w Szkole (Library at School) I edit a series of texts called A bloger’s eye.

Other stuff

Apart from my writing interests sometimes i make websites. I know (X)HTML and CSS very well and a bit of PHP. Im interested in topic such as webstandards, web accessibility and usability. Sometimes i take money for my work, but usually i do it for free, in my spare time.

Thing that i really love is reading. Polish science fiction and fantasy mostly, but i don’t limit myself to one genre. I read what i can – classics, sometimes historical books, everything, basically. There were times, when i read ca. 150 books per year, but they’re gone now. Still, i can say i read a lot.

I use Opera, Miranda and foobar Firefox, Pidgin and Banshee on Ubuntu Linux. I’m hypersensitive when there’s some spelling matters, i hate spelling errors. I’m left-handed.
